Match jewels with each other and gather the resulting points in order to move on to the next level

Although they can get rather repetitive after a while, match-three games are always a good choice when you feel like playing something simple, yet challenging. One of the most popular franchise in the genre is Bejeweled, which has been around for quite a few years now. Now, you can experience the improved sequel version and enjoy even more levels.

Hunt the high score and pass the stages

Bejeweled 2 Deluxe is your typical match-three video game, which means that it should come natural with everyone who’s familiar with similar titles. As such, all you have to do is try and match at least three gems that are of the same type and color. When you do that, they disappear from the board and you are rewarded with points. The more gems you match at once, the more points you receive.

In the game at hand, each stage has a certain threshold you must reach in order to move on to the next level. Obviously, it can take a while to reach it, which is why it is important that you keep an eye on your moves. In case you happen to run out of valid moves, the game ends and you have to take it from the top, which is certainly not what you want after a few hours of effort.

Score awesome combos to make your job easier

Although you only have to match three gems in order to make them disappear and receive points, you can also play smart and try to match more than three. When you do that, the game rewards you with special gems, which have tremendous effects on the board if you use them right. However, it can be rather difficult to obtain the desired combination, especially since failure is always an option later in the game.

As far as the graphics engine is concerned, the game has certainly improved in this regard, although nothing too jawbreaking. The visual quality is smoother and cleaner, which is thanks to the better textures, but the engine itself did not require too much improvement. In essence, it’s the gameplay and the levels that count, not how the colorful jewels look while you move them around.

A satisfying sequel for the fans of the franchise

All in all, Bejeweled 2 Deluxe should be everything you hoped for, in case you enjoyed the first episode and were craving for more. Hence, this is definitely an improvement over the original, made even better by the new levels you can toy around with.

Try to match as many jewels as possible in order to score points in this classic match three game

Bejeweled is the ancestor of all match-three games, because it was one of the first to make the idea popular amongst the casual players. However, even if it didn’t have so many successors to learn from, the game managed to blend the perfect mix of gameplay mechanics, which makes it incredibly addictive to anyone who dares to give it a shot.

Match same-colored jewels and gain points

Bejeweled Deluxe is the first in a long series of sequels and remakes, but its underlying idea is the same as in all the rest. In essence, you have to match three or more jewels in order to have them disappear from the board and gain points in return. Although you can do this randomly and hope for the best, it can happen that you run out of possible moves if you are not careful.

The goal of each level is to reach a certain number of points, and that number increases with every stage you manage to beat. The gameplay mechanics do not change at all from one level to the other, so you can keep doing the same thing from start to finish without having to learn new techniques. Obviously, it can get boring after a while, but the appeal returns after a short break.

Simple controls and intuitive interface

Since the game is designed to be enjoyed by all kinds of players, it’s naturally very simple to play and understand from the first couple of minutes. All you need to do is click on the desired jewels and watch them switch place. Even the options panel is simple and to the point, with only a handful of settings that can be customized, such as music volume and whether the game runs fullscreen or in a window.

Bejeweled

Speaking of which, it’s only natural that the graphics look a bit old at this point, given the fact that it’s been a while since the game was released. However, there are no blocky models to be rendered, only colorful jewels that look as shiny today as they did at the time. The only giveaway is the resolution, which doesn’t work very well with modern monitors.

A huge number of levels to keep you entertained

Although Bejeweled Deluxe is a bit old at this point and you may be better off trying the sequels, you can still enjoy this classic as much as the newer versions. In addition, you can at least see where it all started and learn to appreciate Candy Crush Saga a little bit more.
